Westminster Business Square, a low cost business space complex located in Central London, has been developed to use 47% less energy than a standard office building through a number of means. Firstly, passive measures were adopted, maximising natural daylight, utilising natural ventilation rather than air conditioning, using high thermal mass to help deal with high summer heat loads and good insulation to minimise the winter heating requirement, and collecting water run off via green roofs and storage for re-use. Secondly, active measures were adopted including the provision of renewable energy produced via ground source heat pump and solar thermal hot water panels, active lighting control and efficient ventilation controls and central plant.
