BREEAM Award Shortlisting

Rolfe Judd has been shortlisted for a BREEAM Champions Award, in recognition of the focus on sustainable performance at the heart of our work. The submission focused on both Rolfe Judd’s general approach to sustainability and building performance, as well as two specific projects: Crosspoint and The Marq.

BREEAM standards are a critical part of our brief from the outset of all our projects, and form a critical part of our design and our analysis of the brief.

Our early stage design reviews have performance, environmental design, sustainability and energy use at the heart of the process, and we work alongside BREEAM assessors during projects, supporting them and pushing the design team and contracting team to excel at meeting targets. Achieving the best result possible requires team buy-in and we believe that our capacity and skill set at leading the design teams through the process contributes significantly to the success of BREEAM accreditation.

Jason Rudolph said about the award: ‘We are delighted that the BRE have recognised Rolfe Judd for our commitment to sustainable design. We remain committed to developing beautiful buildings, working with our client’s and industry professionals to illustrate how excellent design, technology and development can become carbon neutral.’

The Marq

The Marq achieved BREEAM excellence for the retail units, and outstanding for the larger office component, as well as a 60% improvement against building regulations targeting CO2 emissions. Roofs are landscaped with bio diverse planting and bird and bat boxes. Clean rainwater is harvested, filtered and reused to supply all WCs for flushing purposes throughout the building. Renewable technologies consisting of air source heat pumps, photo voltaic and solar thermal panels contributed towards The Marq’s A rated EPC.

The Crosspoint

The Crosspoint achieved a BREEAM excellent certification, and includes sustainable technologies such as VRF and air source heat pumps, rooftop photo-voltaic panels, areas of sedum roofing, as well as secure bike storage.

“Rolfe Judd were paramount in steering the design team from planning stage through to completion to achieve the required BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating for the Cross Point project. They kept sustainability ‘front and centre’ of the design process, ensuring the client was kept aware of the core design decisions to deliver a successful BREEAM rating and achieve the clients sustainability aspirations for the building.” James McMeeking, Technical Director, GDM Partnership
