Brook House, is an office building located in the Borough of Woking, West Surrey. The site is a 10-minute walk from Woking Station and is bounded by Chertsey Road and Victoria Way
The building was designed and constructed in the late 1990s / early 2000s as a multi-let B1 office space with two levels of vehicular parking.
The majority of the building is clad in a combination of textured and smooth red facing brickwork with reconstituted stone. The fourth and fifth floors are clad in metallic silver coated aluminium flat panels and the curved roof is also finished in aluminium.
Rolfe Judd carried out a Category A refurbishment of the office floors as well as re-configuration of the reception and toilet areas.
The original reception area had a ceiling height of approx. 7.5m, which was excessive in proportion to the size of the reception area. An infill slab at first floor level has been added, reducing the ceiling height to approx. 4m.
In addition to this, the existing revolving and flanking pass doors have been re-sprayed in a more neutral grey tone, the existing canopy has been refurbished, and the existing soft landscaping stripped back to improve the building’s street presence and to make the entrance more prominent.
At fifth floor level, a large area of curtain wall glazing overlooks Victoria Way and Brook house Common. These have been replaced with clear glass sliding screens to create a winter garden type space enhanced with new composite decking and external lighting.
The division of the screens into three distinct panels and the colour of the framework is in deliberate contrast to the adjacent construction, similar to the approach taken for the main entrance glazing and the changing room block cladding.
The shower and changing facilities have been designed to meet current BCO standards and to encourage more sustainable forms of transportation.
The cycle storage and changing rooms are located on the upper ground floor level accessed via the vehicular access ramp.
Each changing room (male and female) provides two showers and one WC as well as lockers and a dressing area.
The location of the changing area at the centre of the car park coupled with the change in level ensures it is barely visible from either Chertsey Road or Victoria Way.
