Refurbishment and remodelling of a 1930s, Grade II listed, primary school and complementary extension, to expand, enhance and modernise facilities.
Located within a conservation area and alongside Regent’s Canal, the school was in urgent need of refurbishment and modernisation. A more comfortable teaching and learning environment is created by improving daylighting to the heart of the building and introducing a fresh and bright colour scheme. Heritage features were preserved and refurbished.
The new main entrance and reception area is now centrally located, providing a focus for the school community and sweeping views of the canal and city beyond. In addition, a new Early Years Foundation Stage entrance was created to provide direct access for the younger children. Sports facilities are configured for separate access and use by the local community.
Facilities were upgraded throughout to fully meet building regulations, as well as sustainability measures to meet BREEAM Very Good rating. The new sports hall extension is carbon neutral and incorporates PV panels. The project was delivered in time for the new school year.
