The Harbour Central development for Galliard Homes has transformed this previously derelict, empty, and unused site. It now offers over 900 new homes (35% affordable), a six-storey leisure facility, residential amenity spaces, gardens, and a new public square.
Located just south of Canary Wharf on the Isle of Dogs, this strategic location at the heart of the wider Millharbour Village Masterplan offered an opportunity to shape the future of this dynamic area of London while reconnecting with the Docklands’ vibrant past. New homes are provided in 7 new buildings ranging from 8 to 42 storeys creating defined street frontages to the north, east and west. The scheme has been designed from inception to completion.
The client vision was simple: create a striking residential development with exceptional public realm that embodies a commitment to the core values of high-quality design, sustainability, responsible development, and community integration.
Public realm is at the heart of the masterplan with a significant amount of open space. Two contrasting public open spaces are created, a residential garden and an attractive public square. The gardens are designed for causal community and family use, in contrast, the new public square is a larger more civic design with a central water feature, casual seating and
active commercial frontages. The central pedestrian spine connects existing communities to the south with emerging developments to the north.
‘Sailmakers’ by Greystar provides over 300 of the new homes with their Build to Rent, pet-friendly one, two and three-bedroom apartments homes with world-class amenity space personalised services and 24hr concierge facilities.
