A highly sustainable, flexible and sensitively designed mixed-use scheme in the Westminster Cathedral Conservation Area.
This exceptional building incorporates cutting-edge offices, stunning apartments and retail. Roof terraces and gardens give residents the opportunity to enjoy the fabulous views, while the offices below benefit from an adaptable, high performance working environment.
The design successfully resolves the requirements and sensitivities of the Westminster Cathedral Conservation Area with commercial requirements. The area is dominated by the cathedral and the choice of materials is one that is reflected throughout the neighbourhood. Brick is the predominant material and this is used in conjunction with stone or stucco providing a contrasting detail. Proportions and scale echo the varied mansion blocks and warehouse buildings nearby.
The clean lines of the sophisticated, external envelope are realised with an off-site fabrication process of panels, with the windows fitted in place. Internally the design allows for maximum adaptability for current and future occupants, with the ground floor arrangement giving significant flexibility at street level. A double height reception features a living wall through the main lightwell.
A stunning new public art piece by Yinka Shonibare MBE was commissioned for Howick Place. Wind Sculpture makes connections to Britain’s maritime trade and the development of London into one of the world’s greatest trading cities.
