Tabard SquareAn award winning, major, mixed-use project which has contributed significantly to the regeneration of the London Borough of SouthwarkThree separate buildings ranging from six to eight storeys and a 22-storey tower provide 572 new residential units, of which 37% are either affordable or key worker units. A supermarket, commercial and retail space are also part of the development.Central to the design is the sculptural pavilion restaurant, set in the largest public square built in London since the Victorian era. The new pedestrian environment provides access for all members of the community, increasing permeability through the area to bring life and vitality.An illuminated barometer-controlled beacon is a unique feature which sits atop the tower. The glass box contains colour-changing LEDs, which are controlled by a digital barometric pressure sensor.The project has won the following awards: Housing Design Awards – Overall Winner; CABE Gold Standard Award; Building Awards – Major Housing Project of the Year.
