Transformation of a faded Grade ll listed department store into a thriving, mixed-use development in the heart of the West End.
The refurbishment and remodelling of this important building has provided prime office space to the upper floors, flagship retail space to the lower floors and a roof-top restaurant and terrace with stunning panoramic views.
A major challenge centred on providing coherent prime office space within the confines of a retail-led, listed building. A key design decision was to locate the office atrium directly against the rear façade and link this to an office entrance fronting Argyll Street; this provided an opportunity for a larger office reception.
The dramatic new atrium acts as a central hub and link to the Argyll Street entrance via a glass clad lift core. Finishes within the office reception are deliberately simple allowing the sculptural quality of the space to express itself.
