Chelsea GalleriesThis residential-led, mixed-use development with partially retained existing buildings is in a sensitive location, adjacent to the Grade I listed Chelsea Old Town Hall.A combination of new build, refurbishment and restoration, the Georgian retained building was home to the Chelsea Arts Club towards the end of the 1890s. The development offers three private apartments and four town houses designed around a newly formed, first floor urban garden, with retail space at ground and basement level.Appointed for both detailed design and contract administration, the project involved the careful planning and phasing of the insertion of both temporary and new structure around the existing fabric. The approved scheme required the partial retention of the two buildings facing onto the Kings Road, one of which was carefully moved 2.5 metres forward, toward the pavement line.New residential floors with a wheelchair accessible lift were created within the rebuilt flank and rear elevations of the existing buildings. The new town houses are to the rear of the site. The interior finishes combine a simple palette of high quality materials and superb craftsmanship; bespoke timber or stone floors with cool coloured metals and marble.Sectors: Heritage and Listed Refurbishment Residential
