Little Smith Street

A new build residential development in a conservation area close to Westminster Abbey and the Houses of Parliament. The design comprises nine high specification apartments over an underground car park. Rolfe Judd was involved from pre-planning through to completion.

The project replaced a previous office building with a new contemporary residential complex. The building was faced in hand-made red brickwork with grey metal cladding to the penthouse storeys and to the new metal window frames.

The façade elegantly follows the curve of the street, flowing around the corner to Tufton Street.

The proportions of the window openings follow the traditional context; however, each of the windows is slightly offset in plan to create a more contemporary interpretation. Some of the windows have ‘Juliet’ balconies which activate the facades and underline the project’s residential purpose.
