Queen StreetA hotel lobby experience with the introduction of high quality materials and detailing has ensured a fresh approach to the building. The large, open plan reception is divided into implied zones through the use of differing materials and colour. The design creates a series of events to lead the user from the front door to their desired floor.Generous sliding doors from the street lead into a double height space characterised by a translucent concrete floor and wall that glows with LEDs. A curved mesh wall is set behind a white amorphic desk which connects to a waiting area with loose seating.Site constraints meant a level change but a concealed platform is set within the floor tiling to allow travel between the levels for wheelchair and less ambulant users. A leather wall then leads to the lift areaAltogether the clean lines of the design and the zonal layout simplify what can be quite busy areas, implying a larger space.Sectors: Heritage and Listed Offices
