Oval Expansion Plans Are On The Up
Our architecture and planning teams have submitted a detailed planning application on behalf of Surrey County Cricket Club for the redevelopment of the Lock Laker Stand and an adjoining integral building, One Oval Square.
The development forms part of the club’s ambitious plans to expand this world famous and highly cherished sporting facility. When complete this will form part of the wider expansion plans to make The Kia Oval the largest dedicated cricket ground outside of India and Australia. In addition to the extra seats, the proposals will provide an all year round facility with hospitality areas, conference suites with pitch side views, bars and private terraces.
“We are delighted to again be able to assist Surrey County Cricket Club with their improvement and expansion plans at the historic Kia Oval. These latest proposals will increase the seating capacity and range of facilities within the ground to further enhance its reputation as one of the best international cricket venues. The design will also make an important contribution to the local built environment while its new conferencing and hospitality function has the potential to be a major boost to the local economy throughout the year.”
Philip Dunphy, Associate Director, Rolfe Judd
Extensive consultation was undertaken with the council and local residents throughout the design phase, which has proved to be extremely valuable. The new design will be a positive addition to the cricket ground and the local area, with improvements to the public realm and new activity at street level. Both fans and the local community alike are set to benefit from the scheme should it be approved by London Borough of Lambeth.
