Permission Secured for Pocket Living’s Varcoe Road

Members of Southwark Planning committee voted unanimously to grant planning permission for Pocket Living’s first venture in the borough.

The development, designed by Maccreanor Lavington Architects, is located in the Old Kent Road Opportunity Area and will deliver 57 much-needed affordable homes for the intermediate sector in the borough, together with re-provided employment space on the ground floor. The scheme has been carefully designed to integrate into the existing and emerging urban fabric of the area and includes the provision of both internal and external amenity space which will help foster a sense of community within the new development.

The development will assist the borough in the regeneration of the Old Kent Road which seeks to achieve a minimum of 20,000 new homes and 5,000 new jobs in the Opportunity Area over the coming years”.

The scheme is one of the first sites to reach Southwark’s planning committee in the Old Kent Road which has seen a lot of activity recently since the publishing of the draft Old Kent Road Area Action Plan in 2016. Work is now underway on the associated legal agreement.
