Planning Secured for Shakespeare Road

Rolfe Judd Planning is excited to announce that we have secured a unanimous resolution from Lambeth Council’s Planning Committee to grant planning permission for a major redevelopment at Shakespeare Road within the Brixton and Herne Hill area.

Shakespeare Road is an isolated industrial site located in the Borough that provides an exciting opportunity for regeneration of the area as a new higher density residential-led scheme.

The proposed development on behalf of Urban & Provincial seeks the redevelopment of the site to provide new high quality housing alongside substantial new public realm and urban greening.

The approved planning application details demolition of the existing buildings and construction of three separate plots ranging from 5 to 11 storeys and comprising of 218 residential units of which 35% will be affordable. A new communal resident’s courtyard containing substantial play space is also provided for residents of the development.

The scheme seeks the transfer of the capacity of the existing waste site to a donor site within the London Borough of Lambeth and is secured through a series of planning conditions and obligations for the site.

The proposals will complete the street scene along Shakespeare Road, replacing the existing out of character trees which screen the industrial building with a landscaping solution more appropriate to the residential nature of the area.
