Royal Wharf Scheme Presentation
Philip Dunphy from Rolfe Judd Planning, along with representatives from the Ballymore Group, presented the Royal Wharf regeneration scheme to planning leaders from 14 separate London boroughs at the site’s state-of-the-art marketing suite.
The Royal Wharf development, which is currently under construction, represents a significant investment from Oxley Wharf Limited and the Ballymore Group in the regeneration of the Royal Docks area and seeks to create a genuine new urban quarter of the city. The development provides for 3,385 new residential units alongside new shops, restaurants, business and community space, a new two-form entry primary school and leisure facilities to form a vibrant and thriving neighbourhood. Phase 1 is close to completion with construction already underway on the remaining two phases.
The attendance by borough leaders at the presentation is recognition of the merits of a positive collaborative approach with the GLA, London Borough of Newham and the former Thames Gateway Development Corporation and the transformative effect that the development is having on the historically industrial area of the Royal Docks. The scheme was very well received with guests complementing the masterplan approach for the site and the efforts to create a new self-sustaining community with attractive public open spaces.
In his presentation Philip Dunphy noted that
“the scale, quality and diversity of the project has paved the way, and is seen as one of the key catalysts, in changing the perception of these previously isolated industrial wastelands and realising the potential that exists.”
