Royal Wharf Tour Informs and Delights
The London Irish Town Planners (LITP) network hosted a lively tour and discussion on the large scale regeneration taking place at the Royal Docks in East London which is a critical opportunity area for the delivery of the GLA’s ‘City in the East’ project.
The event, sponsored by Ballymore and Rolfe Judd Planning, included a tour of a completed portion of the 15 hectare Royal Wharf site by Philip Dunphy, LITP Board Member and Associate at Rolfe Judd Planning.
From the impressive marketing suite attendees observed the ongoing construction and heard more about the Royal Wharf scheme and the wider area. Guest speakers included Amanda Reid, Head of Planning and Development at London Borough of Newham and John Turner, Director of Town Planning at Ballymore.
The Royal Wharf development, which is currently one of the largest construction sites in the UK, is being delivered by Ballymore and Oxley Wharf Limited. It will provide 3,385 new homes, c. 18,000 sqm of business and retail floorspace, a new primary school, and community and leisure facilities. The scheme will also deliver an intricate network of streets and spaces including a new market square, public park, and Thames Clipper Pier. Phase 1 is close to completion with the entire scheme programmed for completion in 2020.
