West Green Place Wins Award for ‘Best use of brownfield land in Placemaking’
We are delighted that West Green Place N17 has won the award for ‘Best use of brownfield land in Placemaking’ at the Planning Awards 2021. The scheme, which is within the London Borough of Haringey, is a continuation of our long term relationship with Pocket in delivering their innovative intermediate homes across London. The scheme, designed by HTA Architects, provides 98 Pocket homes and 28 market units. Pocket homes are discounted market sale homes for first time buyers that remain affordable in perpetuity.
The scheme includes 16 townhouses and four apartment buildings ranging in height from three to five storeys and homes are arranged along a central avenue replicating the traditional street pattern of the surrounding area. The high quality landscape has been designed to integrate into the adjoining Downhills Park. The scheme includes the creation of a new community centre and nursery at the entrance to the site, adjacent to a new public square and new pedestrian route through to Downhills Park.
The judges said the scheme was a fantastic example of how to make the best out of a brownfield and constrained site.
Sean Tickle, Director of Rolfe Judd Planning stated that: “we are incredibly proud of West Green Place, which will deliver so many significant benefits to local people and our continuing involvement with Pocket which makes such a difference to the delivery of affordable homes across London.”
