Woodberry Down Wins at the Planning Awards
Woodberry Down wins two awards and is highly commended for a third at the Planning Awards.
At the recent Planning Awards, the regeneration of Woodberry Down by Berkeley Homes was a star project of the night. In the Placemaking Category, Best Housing Scheme (500 Homes or More), the judges praised the physical and environmental benefits of the scheme, as well as the high level of affordable housing. One described the scheme as “designed to ensure maximum benefit to the surrounding area”. Another said: “This is excellent creation of a new community in a very modern setting with superb facilities and an impressive focus on social cohesion.” The project also won Planning Category, Award for Planning for Housing Growth and was Highly Commended for Placemaking Category, Award for Regeneration.
Woodberry Down is one of London’s largest and most successful regeneration projects; we have been working on this exemplar scheme with Berkeley Homes and Hackney Council since 2006. To date, 1,600 homes have been delivered already from a total of over 5,500 which are planned over a 20-year period. Of the new homes proposed, 41 per cent are affordable and the local community has been extensively involved in the process. In addition to the new homes, new jobs, community spaces and large areas of public realm are being delivered.
