Axtell HouseThe remodelling and extension of the top three floors of a prominent conservation area building, providing a striking contemporary roof form within Soho, close to Regent Street. The elegant early 20th Century commercial building which accommodates a number of office and business tenants had been unsympathetically extended in the past. With leases drawing to a close, the opportunity arose to enhance the building’s skyline, increase the quantity and quality of space on the site together with the provision of a new roof-top amenity space. The bold form of architectural expression adopted by the design team and advanced with the planners aims to complement the retained historic façades of the building below, whist the roof garden will contribute to enhancing local biodiversity.Following careful local consultation and extensive pre-application consultation with the local authority, permission was unanimously supported and granted.Client: E&A Investments LtdLPA: City of WestminsterArchitect: Darling AssociatesSectors: Offices
