CarnabyIconic Carnaby Street was a West End location in need of a change in direction back in 1996. Then Shaftesbury PLC acquired the significant portfolio of properties to consolidate its growing property holdings in Soho.We have been responsible for providing planning consultancy advice on the portfolio from day one; supporting Shaftesbury’s active management of its wide range of shops, restaurants, bars, workspaces and residential apartments, all of which make ‘Carnaby’ a vibrant part of the West End. Challenges arose through the introduction of new uses and reconciling modern functions with heritage assets. Optimising property use with a view to balancing planning policy objectives with the commercial aims of our Client has been central to our work here.Significant public realm enhancements have been achieved and new retailing and catering destinations established. Through creative application of flexible planning permissions and use of planning swaps, the property assets of Shaftesbury’s Carnaby village continue to drive growth in this World renowned part of London’s West End.Client: ShaftesburyLPA: City of WestminsterArchitect: VariousSectors: Community Entertainment and Leisure Mixed-Use
