Central CrossA major development scheme for Shaftesbury PLC in central London delivering new retail, café and restaurant spaces.Central Cross is a well known, monolithic 1970’s building on Charing Cross Road. The area for development was sandwiched between existing residential apartments above and a public car park at basement level. The scheme provides first class retail units facing Charing Cross Road, new café units for Newport Court and larger restaurant space to Newport Place. Varying sizes of units will be provided according to the different conditions and needs for the façade of each building. New shopfronts will complement the distinctive character of the area and relaunch the block as a prime retail location. Also included is the reconfiguration of new areas within the public realm and new facilities for the existing Street Cleansing Depot, operated by Veolia.Planning permission was granted in August 2015 and construction is currently underway.Client: ShaftesburyLPA: City of WestminsterArchitect: Buckley Gray YeomanSectors: Entertainment and Leisure Mixed-Use
