Channing School

Channing School comprises a campus of predominantly listed buildings and occupies a prominent conservation area location, close to the centre Highgate Village on Highgate Hill.

The school required modern, fit-for-purpose, performing arts and sports facilities. The facilities needed to be functionally flexible and capable of meeting a range of education and community uses. The challenging, sloping site, in close proximity to established residential communities required careful conceptual planning and consultation. We were involved in drawing up a planning brief and promoting an architectural competition for the school site.

The environmental, conservation, design, and construction considerations relating to the redevelopment of the school buildings and extension of the site’s facilities, whilst keeping the school running throughout the duration of development, posed significant challenges. The design team worked with the local authorities to resolve detailed design and construction phasing issues.
