Marco Polo BuildingPart of the Royal Wharf development, Plot 18 was the subject of a design competition to secure an exemplary gateway building within south-western corner of the site.DP Architects (a practice from Singapore) were selected to partner Glenn Howells in delivering the new building, which at 19 storeys will be the tallest residential building on-site. The selected design is based on a dynamic form, incorporating 3 subtly twisted vertically stacked building boxes, with moving screens. This will create a distinctive look which will successfully contrast with the design approach adopted for the other blocks on-site. When complete, the new building will front directly onto the River Thames and provide 119 new residential units.Rolfe Judd Planning was part of the Design Competition Panel and subsequently coordinated the submission of planning applications for the selected design.Client: Ballymore Properties and Oxley Wharf LimitedLPA: LB NewhamArchitect: DP Architects / Glenn HowellsSectors: Residential Tall Buildings
