Salters’ Hall

Salters’ Hall is the complete refurbishment and extension of a Grade II listed livery hall and office building through designs originally conceived by Basil Spence.

The project designed by award winning architects dMFK includes extended office floorplates to the North and South, complete re-servicing and improvement of the environmental EPC rating, as well as new cladding, curtain walling and roofing throughout. New office space to the ground and lower ground floors, as well as new landscaping, open the building up to the historic Salters’ Garden and Roman Wall.

The proposals integrate the building into the changing urban context of the London Wall masterplan with a new entrance pavilion oriented towards a new urban promenade, linking The Guildhall to The Barbican. The project develops an appropriate architectural language for restoring bespoke Brutalist buildings by making subtle distinction between old and new, preserving and enhancing the building’s unique design.
