A completely new public space framed by a mix of refurbished and new buildings incorporating, offices, residential, retailing and catering uses has been created within a previously underused and run-down part of Covent Garden.
Longmartin Properties is a joint venture between The Mercers’ Company and Shaftesbury PLC constituted deliberately to exploit the development potential afforded by combining their respective property interests in this part of Covent Garden. Careful appraisal of the constituent property holdings, optimising uses across the street block and maximising the potential to enhance the public realm have resulted in new pedestrian thoroughfares through the site and enhanced retail stores fronting onto Long Acre. The development supports Covent Garden’s emergence as a significant shopping and leisure destination within the West End.
Balancing commercial development opportunities with the interests of the established local communities has been key to the Courtyard’s realisation.
