We were engaged by Shaftesbury to deliver planning permission and a highways licence for the installation of a curated piece of public art at the junction of Carnaby Street and Broadwick Street.
Comprising a simple ‘monolith’, the video sculpture displays an LED screen behind toughened glass featuring internationally renowned artist Julian Opie’s famous walking figures – a simple animated form of a model walking in profile. Alluding to Carnaby’s cultural affiliations with fashion and pop-art, the artwork plays a valuable role in enhancing the local streetscape and maintaining the attractiveness and vibrancy of the area to visitors. The cultural significance of the artwork was established with it forming part of the curated London Lumiere Festival of Light in January 2016.
