David Rolfe. Architect/ car enthusiast/ sailor and family man
It is with great sadness that we announce that David Rolfe passed away in January, co-founder of Rolfe Judd.
David, along with Tony Judd, established Rolfe Judd in 1968, laying the foundations for what has become a leading architectural and planning practice.
David studied at the University of Sheffield and qualified as an architect in 1964. He worked at the Department of the Environment and then with private practices in Sheffield and London before opening Rolfe Judd. He had experience in building systems on all types of commercial office, residential and industrial development, refurbishment, and restoration. Rolfe Judd’s offices (which were a former derelict Congregational Chapel) is a legacy which David was instrumental in its vision and completion.

David was a visionary architect, a charismatic leader, and a man of immense passion—not only for architecture but also for classic cars and his beloved barge, Ardwina.
Those who had the privilege of working with him, learning from him or just the pleasure of meeting him will remember his big personality, sharp wit, and unwavering enthusiasm for design.
His legacy lives on within Rolfe Judd, the company he created along with Tony and the many people he inspired along the way. He will be deeply missed by colleagues, friends, and family alike.
