We are delighted to share that three of our projects have been shortlisted for the New London Awards 2023.
Willow Walk (previously called Osiers Road), shortlisted in the “Housing Category”, blends modern aesthetics, sustainable features, and a vibrant community atmosphere with its 168 fully affordable homes on top of 40,000 of flexible commercial floorspace in the Wandsworth Riverside Delta. Delivering 40% of the site as public realm and 3 buildings with beautiful and pioneering facades, this scheme is an example for both co-location and high-quality affordable living.
Housing is a fundamental right and an essential element for fostering vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable communities. Willow Walk, designed by Rolfe Judd Architecture, is a testament to innovation, sustainability, and community-centric design, providing affordable spaces where families can thrive, and communities can flourish.
Competing in the same category is Keybridge, designed by Allies & Morrison. This is a mixed-use development in place of the former brutalist BT telephone exchange building in Vauxhall, and provides 598 new residential units, along with a two-form-entry primary school, and commercial floor space within five blocks ranging from 4 to 36 storeys.
Rolfe Judd Planning have been involved with the site since the submission of the full planning application for Keybridge House in 2015. Principally residential, at its heart the scheme provides space for a much needed new school building, and an appropriately rich mix of buildings carve out a series of fluid public and private spaces, creating views and vistas through the site. The contextually rich architecturally language and character use the same red brick, and details that are responsive to its Victorian neighbours.
70-72 Broadwick Street, running for the “Workplace Category” award, stands as an example of innovation and sustainability, and successfully demonstrates how a diverse range of uses can be accommodated within one urban block in the heart of London.
The refurbished and extended building by architects Buckley Gray Yeoman consists of retail along Carnaby Street, offices on the upper floors, a range of flexible/alternative uses (including options for two restaurants and a fitness club), a new live music venue in the basement, and 15 residential flats at the top of the building. The development reflects the diverse and vibrant nature of Soho – characterised by entertainment uses and retail – but is underpinned by best-in-class employment spaces, attracting office workers back into the West End.
