We are immensely proud of our Part 2 Architectural Assistant Nimra Shahid, for winning the RIBA London Student Award 2024!
Her awarded project, The Out of Reach Oasis, explores how architecture can unite urban infrastructure and green spaces, emphasising the coexistence of community and industry.
Located beside the Western Riverside Waste Authority (WRWA) on a former gasworks site in Wandsworth, the project prioritises environmental restoration and community engagement. A phased phytoremediation strategy will tackle soil contamination, crucial for preparing the land for public use. By incorporating a nature-integrated building, the design provides new workshop and educational spaces, expanding WRWA’s waste and recycling education initiatives. This approach celebrates ecological resilience alongside urban progress, achieving a harmonious balance between nature and development.
Nimra was also nominated for the prestigious RIBA Dissertation Medal. Our Director, Steve Harvey, chair of the RIBA Southwest London Architects Group, proudly introduced and presented the awards to a packed main hall at RIBA HQ, 66 Portland Place.
