After an exciting evening at the Property Week RESI Awards’ ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel and amongst a list of very high-quality contenders, Twickenham Station Redevelopment has received the “Highly Commended” distinction, in the category of Development of the Year.
This Redevelopment was completed in June 2022, reflecting ten years of meticulous work and delivering one of the most technically ambitious mixed-use development projects seen in the UK. It delivers 121 new homes, 7,000 sqf of new retail space as well as greatly improving the station.
Designed as an innovative over-rail development and constructed whilst passenger services from the station continued to operate, the project’s success demanded design and delivery excellence. As the station is the immediate hub for attendees to the nearby national rugby stadium, the project needed to flex between everyday development activities, and crowd surges involving tens of thousands of people.
The station environment and facilities have been vastly improved with a significantly larger ticket office and new lifts and stairs. These contribute to improving the passenger’s experience, increasing accessibility for mobility impaired passengers, promoting a modal shift toward cleaner journeys and improved air quality.
All the homes have been delivered to leading design and sustainability standards with a focus on durable, stylish interiors and high quality exterior finishes.
The high-quality public realm offers a transition between the more civic town centre space in front of the station ticket hall, and the more intimate environment along the River Crane creating a new amenity destination on the riverside walk.
The Property Week RESI Awards provide a platform to showcase industry-leading projects throughout the residential property sector from developers, house builders, investors, architects and other key players within the industry. Years of hard work have gone into Twickenham Station Redevelopment and it has proven to be a local success, transforming the station for Twickenham residents and stadium visitors whilst creating a genuine residential community in the most challenging of contexts.
