Bolters Corner was originally established as a residential home for the elderly, following a change of use from residential in 1983. The home was extended again in 1988 before being registered as a nursing home in the 1990’s. Bolters Corner specialises in dealing with residents with dementia and associated challenging behaviours and provides both long stay and respite stay care. The home is currently registered for 35 residents with the Care Quality Commission.
The existing nursing home is currently operating at capacity with a long waiting list, demonstrating an identified need for more specialist care home beds in the area. This project will increase the capacity of the nursing home by constructing a two-storey extension to the existing building on the vacant site to the south, which will incorporate both traditional and modern architectural details. The extension will accommodate a net increase of 20 bedrooms with single occupancy, increasing the capacity of the nursing home to 53 residents. A larger communal living and dining area for residents will be provided at ground floor, with connection to an external terrace and garden.
The scheme has been designed by IDL: Architecture in consultation with the project team to ensure a high-quality sustainable development is proposed which is sensitive to the existing locally listed building and secures the long term operation of the nursing home.
It provides an excellent opportunity to deliver additional care home beds through an extension of the established and successful existing home where there is an identified demand for this type of accommodation in the area.
