Northcliffe HouseRe-development of the former Daily Mail offices behind Fleet Street in central London. The new building provides office space and incorporates a large atrium area.Careful negotiation with conservation agencies was required on several aspects, including the preservation and removal of Fleet Street’s last remaining hot-metal press, nine metres long and tall, to the Science Museum’s technology wing at Wroughton, Wiltshire. In addition the planning proposed the retention of Magpie Alley, a small public right of way through the rear of the building, containing a series of tiles which describe the Woods Press and the history of printing in Fleet Street. The façades to Whitefriars street and Tudor street were retained and new main entrances with lift lobbies and toilets on each floor added. High-quality limestone and granite was specified for cladding and paving with grey polished Sardinian granite in the case of the scenic lift pit. A variety of coloured marbles were sourced to decorate the feature entrance to the lower ground floor restaurant.Contact: Steve HarveyClient: Hilstone CorporationSectors: Project Delivery Workplace
